Adorama x Sony A7r

There’s so many new people on here that I wanted to begin by introducing myself first.
Hi everyone! My name is Karen Marie and I am a maker and an artist specializing in photography. I am a seeker, and adventurer, and a creator. The earth is filled with beauty beyond measure and every day presents the opportunity to see the same things in a new way, to give fresh perspective to what seems old, and to never stop learning. My photography is an overflow of my heart and ambition. I want the real raw, authentic, emotional; the little things that go unnoticed by most; the art of being human. I photography people who live adventurously, love uncontrollably, and have ambition. From my shooting style to my to my editing tones, I do things natural and down to earth. My clients value artistic vision, doing life with good people, and healthy lifestyle. I create images for regular humans, as well as brands whether big or small. If my work doesn’t meet that standard, then my work would be in vain. I have a heart for people and I value authenticity. My photography will always be about my clients and never about me. I only partner with companies I truly believe in and have used in the past or still use.

With that being said, I was presented with the biggest opportunity to partner with Adorama . I have purchased and rented with Adorama in the past and I’m so excited about this. In case you haven’t heard about this incredible company, Adorama is a camera and film equipment store established in 1979 and located in New York City. However, you don’t need to live in New York City to order, rent, or buy from them. They offer the best selection and prices on professional photography and video gear, pre-audio, and consumer electronics such as home theaters, mobile computing, home office equipment, and so much more.

Most of you know that i’m a huge advocate for gear rentals. When I was presented the opportunity to partner with Adorama , my immediate response was YES! I was loaned a Sony A7r and it was a complete game changer. The Sony delivers some of the best image quality i’ve seen for under $3K in a great shooting design and feature set. When I started photography, I started with Film and this camera took me back to my roots.

The Sony A7r has the feels of a SLR and Film. The perfect combination to a camera. The first feature I enjoyed was the exterior. I’m used to carrying around a SLR camera that weighs (what feels like 50 pounds after hours of shooting) a lot. However, this body was light as a feather, sometimes I forgot I even had a camera and that was a new feeling. Secondly, the screen was so helpful! If you’ve met me in person you know my height barely makes it to 5’0 so being able to adjust the screen to my height was SO helpful. My third favorite was the ISO. Y’all it was freaking powerful and so crisp. (I’m about to nerd talk for a second so hold on) For still images, the ISO ranges from 100-25600, ISO numbers from ISO 50 can’t be set as expanded ISO range and for movies, ISO ranges from 200-25600 equivalent.

All this to say, I love gear, I love being challenged with new camera gear, and I love photo rental website such as Adorama. Do yourself a favor and head over to the website and pick out some gear! #ad

David's Bridal #MeetTheStylist

Often times when beginning a blog post with words I am at a loss for a non-awkward introduction, so this time I'll begin with a photo instead (I am, after all, a photographer).

Good, now that the beginning of the post is over we can get into how everything actually went at David's Bridal. Often times bridal boutiques get a bad reputation for being not so initially welcoming, but my experience when entering David's Bridal in Los Angeles was certainly opposite the norm. They were extremely welcoming from the moment I walked through the door, immediately asking for my name whilst checking me in. They asked me to take a seat, and gave me the bridal book with sticky-notes to select my favorites, while they went and got a stylist for me.

My stylist ended up being Brianna, who was warm, welcoming, and easy to get along with. In summation, we hit it off. Her first questions were about how I met my fiancé, how we met and what our story was. She inquired as to what I did for a living, what my general style was, and what excites me about life. No doubt dress styles and the obvious came into play but I greatly appreciated the time she took getting to know our story, which clearly informed her style picks.

When all was said and done I tried on five dresses and I could not have been more happy with those five. With every new dress she asked me to tell her three things I loved about it, three things I hated about it, which would then inform her next choice. Each dress was more beautiful than the next, and I can only credit Brianna for that.

Not only was attention and detail a big part of picking my dress choices, but also when picking bridesmaid dresses. My dear friend Arielle came along to help pick out and try on these (it helps that she is actually one of my bridesmaids!), and Brianna's diligence carried through in this arena. She asked Arielle what she liked, what made her feel beautiful, and a myriad of other insightful questions. When she brought out her three picks it was clear that she nailed it, because both Arielle and I were so excited by all, and ended up picking one. Which one do you think it was?

My experience with David's Bridal, overall, was one I will look back on as the epitome of great customer service. At no point in the process did I feel I was being fit into a formula, but rather that each need and desire I had was being tended to and cared for, and I think anyone looking for a truly unique and tailored experience in wedding dress shopping would be beyond happy with the fantastic team that is David's Bridal.

Tree Hut Co - #TreeHutCo

I am SO excited to share this Collaboration I did with Tree Hut. They are a small team of designers that handmake a variety of watches in their San Francisco studio. They share a love for one-of-a-kind designs, so each watch is naturally unique and handcrafted out of real wood. They're also sentimentalists that engrave inspiring messages on each watch to create a unique, personalized experience.

Perhaps you want to gift a Tree Hut watch to someone special in your life, as a memento. The watches offer versatile designs, with customizable engraving, have a dash of personality -- and we truly believe the perfect finishing touch is you.

Shooting these watches was such a fun experience and not difficult at all. The watch is beautiful and unique. We decided to take a trip to our local rose garden and had fun creating content that would best represent Tree Hut.

From the adventurous soul to the everyday commuter, Tree Hut's handmade designs are completely versatile with a dash of personality. You can't go wrong with that.

Make sure you're following Tree Hut and my blog. We have some exciting shoot in store within the next few months. Believe us when we say, You don't want to miss this.

Blurb

I recently partnered with Blurb Books to create content and share a little bit about what they're about. Blurb is the world's first platform for creating, printing, and publishing independent books. Blurb is one of those amazing big-picture ideas made real: A mash-up of creative freedom with print-on-demand technology.

Blurb authors have created more than two million books since the company started, with a new book created every minute. If you were to ask me, that's incredible and a successful company, amiright? You have the ability to customize your book from every page, text, color, you name it.

You're probably thinking, "Karen why're you so adamant about blurb?" Well let me tell you, friends! Aaron and I will be getting married March 25, 2017 that's about 176 days away (not that I'm counting or anything). Aaron had the brilliant idea to start a Pinterest board so we could begin brainstorming interior design ideas. What a gem he is, right ladies? As we started to pin ideal designs we realized that we had traveled so much leaving us with photos to remember. There's only so many photos you can hang so we immediately said, "TRAVEL BOOK". Blurb Books came to our rescue days later.

All this to say, if you've been traveling and want to see your images in a tangible form. Printing your images changes your perspective in the best way possible. It's one thing to see your images online and it's another to hold your images. Go check out Blurb Books! I will link Blurb's: website, instagram, twitter, and Facebook below.
